Using clay I create sculptures that stand alone or in series. I play with texture, movement and size to change the atmosphere that surrounds my work. I employ many different processes in ceramics such as press molds, slab building, hand building and carving.
My most current works are interpretations of equine forms. My fascination is focused on the means of communication, and the interactions of different species that employ the use of gestures and body language. The human and horse relationship is one that I am specifically interested in.
Our historical dependence on equines and how it has changed over the years influence the style in which pieces are created. It interests me how the role of horses will continue to evolve. Have horses found their position in our society as a symbol/form of entertainment?
Equines were once a daily interaction for people. I hold onto this tradition as I communicate with horses, as companions and recreate their presence through ceramics.
